At Sales Sense Payments, working with CardConnect, we are committed to protecting our partners and their merchants. As such, we would like to make our partners aware of recent fraud attempts targeting Clover merchants.
Over the past few weeks, we have flagged numerous merchants attempting unusual refunds. Further investigation has indicated merchants at the locations had received calls from individuals impersonating Clover personnel and requesting they conduct a refund transaction to a prepaid debit card in order to confirm their system is functioning properly.
Please be advised these are fraudulent phone calls from individuals attempting to divert funds to prepaid debit card in their possession.

Please be aware that Fiserv/Clover will never contact merchants requesting that they process a refund onto a prepaid debit card that they have not processed a transaction on previously .
While this type of scheme is not uncommon, this current group appears persistent and rather convincing in getting merchants to process these refunds. The refund amount requested from this group can vary. Recently, the refund request has ranged from $5,000 to $9,000 - so it is important to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity
